Ministers of Care bring Holy Communion to parishioners who are homebound, living in nursing homes, or in the hospital. They share with them the word of God in scripture, pray with them for the Church and the world, and offer them companionship. Through the Ministry of Care we are able to keep long-time parishioners of OLPH connected and active in our faith community.
The work of the Ministry of Care is open to all members of our parish community, and a basic training course for new Ministers of Care will begin on Thursday, October 2. The training will take place on five successive Thursday evenings. Each session will focus on a particular aspect of the Ministry of Care.
The unifying thread woven through all is a commitment to helping you develop the skills and confidence needed to be a source of comfort to those who are sick. Each weekly session will last two hours and will be given by an experienced facilitator accompanied by group discussion. Completion of this course qualifies you to receive the Archdiocesan mandate to bring Communion to the sick, homebound and hospitalized of our parish.
