Winter 2023 Study

This winter we will be studying the letters of James, 1&2 Peter and Jude.  Our ministry has never studied this part of the Bible before and we may only infrequently visit this section of the Bible on our own.  The themes in these letters are very much in line with messages of hope, perseverance, and warnings in troubling times (much like we need today in our fractious world):

  • James has been characterized as Christian wisdom literature - NT version of Proverbs, Sirach etc.
  • 1 Peter encourages young churches perplexed by growing hostilities & sufferings - characterized as NT version of Job
  • 2 Peter addresses false teachings that started to infiltrate the early churches
  • Jude urges readers to deepen their grasp of apostolic doctrine, steady faith of others and guard against false prophets

Our study guide will be the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible published by Ignatius Press with Introduction, Commentary and Notes by Scott Hahn & Curtis Mitch.  This is the same study guide series that we used for our study of Matthew in 2021 and Samuel 1 & 2 in 2019.  Our 9-week study will begin the week of January 30th and conclude the week of March 27th.  The cost will be $20 per participant.
