The Holy Rosary Group invites you to pray the Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help

Before beginning the prayers, close your eyes and become aware of God’s presence with you. Now call to mind what it is you want to ask of Our Lady for this Novena. Let us begin.

+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Prayer

Most holy and Immaculate Virgin and our Mother Mary, you are our Perpetual Help, our refuge and our hope. We come to you today. We thank God for all the graces received through your intercession. Mother of Perpetual Help, we promise to love you always and to do all we can to lead others to you. Confident of your powerful influence with God, obtain for us these graces: the strength to overcome temptation, a perfect love for Jesus Christ, and a holy death so that we will live with you and your son for all eternity. Amen.

Day 9: The Archangel Michael

Image
Day 9

On the icon, the archangel on your left is Saint Michael. He has a red tunic with a blue mantle. Michael presents the other instruments of the Passion: the lance, the pole with a sponge, and a vessel of vinegar.

Saint Bonaventure claimed that, to defend her clients when they are dying, Mary sends Saint Michael the Archangel to them with his host of angels. She commands him to receive the souls of all who have constantly recommended themselves to her.

What is it that causes you the greatest fear of death? As a devotee of Mary, you can trust that Saint Michael will defend you against the forces of evil. Imagine him in his armor, leading you to Christ and his mother—not only at the time of your death, but even now as you pray and meditate. Take comfort in that image.

Scripture Reflection

At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish, such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book.

DANIEL 12:1

Let us pray…

Glorious Archangel Michael, you are the defender of the Church, protector of the dying, and destroyer of evil spirits. Come to our aid and help us in our present need. Glorious prince of the heavenly spirits, surround us in the light of your powerful protection. Enlighten our minds and inflame our hearts so we may be true witnesses of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Mother of Perpetual Help, pray for us who have recourse to you.

Closing Prayer

All powerful and merciful Lord, you give us the picture of the Mother of your Son to venerate under the title of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Graciously grant that in all the difficulties of our lives we may be assisted by the continuous protection of the Virgin Mary and obtain the reward of eternal redemption. You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen. +
