The Holy Rosary Group invites you to pray the Novena to Our Mother of Perpetual Help

Before beginning the prayers, close your eyes and become aware of God’s presence with you. Now call to mind what it is you want to ask of Our Lady for this Novena. Let us begin.

+ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Prayer

Most holy and Immaculate Virgin and our Mother Mary, you are our Perpetual Help, our refuge and our hope. We come to you today. We thank God for all the graces received through your intercession. Mother of Perpetual Help, we promise to love you always and to do all we can to lead others to you. Confident of your powerful influence with God, obtain for us these graces: the strength to overcome temptation, a perfect love for Jesus Christ, and a holy death so that we will live with you and your son for all eternity. Amen.

Day 7

Day 7: Jesus' Sandals

Frightened by the vision of the two angels showing the instruments of his future Passion, the Christ Child has run to his mother. His right foot is nervously curled about his left ankle. Wishing to depict Jesus’ anguish, the artist has painted the right sandal falling off his foot because he had run so fast. It allows us to see the sole of his foot—a sign that, although God, he is also human. It is also a sign that anyone who contemplates Christ’s Passion will receive redemption and “set foot” in his eternal inheritance.

In the last moments of his life, Jesus designated Mary to be the Mother of all believers: “Here is your Mother” (see John 19:27). Mary adopts us in order to bring us to Jesus. Mary calls all children who need a mother. She wants us to run to her, the most loving Mother there is. We all know how much a mother loves her children. Imagine the depth of Mary’s love for her spiritual children! Mary is a fortress that can shield all those who run to her for protection.

Offer to Mary all your fears and struggles right now. Look at the picture of Our Mother of Perpetual Help and in it know that “here is your mother.” In your own words tell her that, as her child, you love her.

Scripture Reflection

The Lord said to the serpent, I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.

GENESIS 3:15

Let us pray…

Mother of Perpetual Help, we your children come before you. You know the desire of your son who wishes to share with us the fullness of redemption. No one besides God desires our salvation more than you do. We ask you to assist us with your prayers. Mother of Christ, during the Passion and death of your Son, he gave you to us as a mother. You ask us to call you Mother of Perpetual Help. In confidence we present our needs to you and trust in your motherly care for us. Gather us together under your protection and lead us one day to share with you and all the angels and saints the joys of heaven. Amen.

Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Mother of Perpetual Help, pray for us who have recourse to you.

Closing Prayer

All powerful and merciful Lord, you give us the picture of the Mother of your Son to venerate under the title of Our Mother of Perpetual Help. Graciously grant that in all the difficulties of our lives we may be assisted by the continuous protection of the Virgin Mary and obtain the reward of eternal redemption. You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen. +
