Book: “Return of the Prodigal Son” by Henri J. M. Nouwen
The Parable of the Prodigal Son is one of Jesus' greatest parables. It forces us to ponder the mystery of our all-loving God, and to see ourselves in each of the three characters in the parable. This is what Father Nouwen does after he encounters Rembrandt’s moving painting "The Return of the Prodigal Son - A Story of Homecoming" for which his book is named. It is divided into three parts, one each for the wayward Younger Son, the righteous Older Son, and their forgiving Father. In each part Fr. Nouwen meditates on the painting and on the character described, and in the process he learns much about himself and his spiritual journey here on earth. You will too, so come and join us as we discuss and learn from this wonderful book and parable.
Henri J.M. Nouwen was a Dutch-born Catholic priest, professor, and pastor who gained international renown as author of over thirty books on the spiritual life. Since his death in 1996, an increasing number of readers have been guided by his literary legacy.
