Solemn Vespers for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

On behalf of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, you are cordially invited to the Eleventh Annual Solemn Vespers for the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation Sunday, August 31, 2025 | 7:00pm Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.

All are invited as the Catholic and Greek Orthodox communities of greater Chicagoland join together for an ecumenical service to give thanks for God’s gift of creation and to recognize the conservation efforts of His disciples.

Bishop Mark Bartosic, Archdiocese of Chicago, will preside at this service and is honored to be joined by His Grace Bishop Timothy of Hexamilion, Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago.

The Vespers will be followed by a reception and lecture by Dr. Apostolis Sambanis.

Water as Sacred Stewardship in the Catholic and Greek Orthodox Churches
As the Vice President of Sustainability at Sloan, Dr. Apostolis Sambanis is responsible for developing, managing, and constantly improving the company’s sustainability program. His leadership in global governance, processes, and systems ensures the company’s position at the forefront of the industry in its socio-economic systems towards sustainability. In addition, Dr. Sambanis is an adjunct assistant professor and director of the EmergencyManagement and Resilience Planning Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s School of Public Health. Dr. Sambanis’ academic accomplishments include being an expert in geographic information systems (GIS), Spatial Analysis and Decision Assistance (SADA), and Hazards United States (HAZUS). Combined with a solid quantitative background, this work creates the ideal profile for his current risk visualization and decision-support research, which focuses on managing disasters or measuring resilience.
