The Feast of St. Blaise will be celebrated during this weekend's Masses (Sat. evening 2/1, and all Masses Sunday 2/2, and on the Feast Day Monday 2/3). Come for a special blessing of the throat.
Feast of St. Blaise - Blessing of the throats with candles.
Saint Blaise is the Patron of Throat Illnesses and much of this has to do with a legend that a boy was brought to Saint Blaise who had a fishbone caught in his throat. The boy was going to die, however Blaise was able to heal him.
An invocation to St. Blaise and a blessing of the throat remains in practice today. The blessing is done by using two candles, held open slightly and then pressed against the throat.
Come to either Saturday evening, any Mass Sunday, or Monday at the 6:30am or 8:30am Masses to receive the blessing.
