Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to the Sick Training

Ministers of Care bring Holy Communion to parishioners who are homebound, living in nursing homes, or in the hospital. They share with them the word of God in scripture, pray with them for the Church and the world, and offer them companionship.

Through the Ministry of Care, we are able to keep long-time parishioners of OLPH connected and active in our faith community. The work of the Ministry of Care is open to all members of our parish community, and a basic training course for new Ministers of Care will take place in Hickey Hall at OLPH.

The training will take place on two successive Saturday mornings this fall:

  • October 25
  • November 1

Both sessions will focus on various aspects of the Ministry of Care; however, the unifying thread woven through all is a commitment to helping you develop the skills and confidence needed to be a source of comfort to those who are sick, elderly or homebound.
These sessions will be facilitated by Rick Nash and Jim Vlazny, Coordinators of the Ministry of Care at OLPH. Completion of this course qualifies you to receive the Archdiocesan mandate to bring Communion to the sick, homebound and hospitalized of our parish.

If you think God might be calling you to this most important ministry, please contact Rick Nash for more information or to register for the training sessions. Call 847-651-8718 or email Rick at rick.nash@comcast.net
Lastly, if you, a family member, or someone you know is homebound, unable to attend Mass, and would like to receive Holy Communion, OLPH Ministers of Care are available to bring Holy Communion.
For more information, please call the Rectory Office at 847-729-1525.
