Join us 3:00pm Sunday, June 25, for a wonderful presentation by Jerol Leitner titled: “Henry David Thoreau: Americas Conscience.”

Warning! When discussing HDT, we find incongruity in his behavior and values. While Thoreau was briefly exposed to formal Christian religion, he was not interested in dogma, organized religion, or the authority of priests or ministers.  Yet his actions are consistent with Christian values and he can even be labeled as a “secular saint”.

Jerol Leitner will look at Thoreau the person, examine his life and views rooted in spiritual values including preserving the environment, non-violent protests, advocating for simple living, limited government, self discovery and his increasing relevance to American thought.

Can anyone resist man who when asked if he had made his peace with God, replied “I didn't know we had quarreled!”

Jerol Leitner has Masters degrees in English and Theology. He taught these subjects at St Viator High School and now lectures at senior centers, libraries, and community college programs.

This Evolve program is being presented on Sunday 6-25 in McDonnell Hall.  Light refreshments at 3:00 and lecture at 3:30.
